Description

Edward Deravenel is the king of his company at last: a man who sought and won a business empire—and the favors of many women.  Now it is 1918, the war is over, an influenza epidemic is sweeping England, and Edward has a family and a business to protect. He must thread his way between his loyal brother Richard and the treacherous middle brother of the family, George. And the politics of inheritance are intense, as different family factions vie for the honor. The choices include a loyal caretaker, a jealous rumormonger, a charming young woman, a sickly boy, and the scion of the family Edward ousted from power years before.

Reviews

AudioFile Magazine...
John Lee's skill in creating voices for a large cast is fully engaged in this lengthy novel of family intrigue. Taylor Bradford's sprawling novel about the Deravenel dynasty spans most of the twentieth century, giving Lee the opportunity to showcase his talent for dialogue in a variety of settings. While Lee's performance is flawless and his characters are clearly distinguished, Taylor Bradford's characters remain two-dimensional and the plot ultimately unsatisfying. This novel is a sequel to THE RAVENSCAR DYNASTY, so the flatness of the characters and their lack of charisma may stem from the fact the sequel doesn't fully stand on its own. R.F.
